Last week, SickKids hosted the inaugural symposium of the Precision Child Health Partnership (PCHP) — a collaboration between SickKids and CHU Sainte-Justine to fuel Precision Child Health. For the first time, researchers, clinicians, students, philanthropic partners and leadership from both institutions came together in-person to share progress and discuss what’s on the horizon.
The agenda included updates from seven ongoing projects funded through the Catalyst Program, DECODE(u)R, a joint study to improve diagnostic yield and accelerate the path to treatment for children with rare disease, as well as built-in opportunities for dynamic exchanges and collaboration between project teams.
A significant highlight was the pitch presentations from the three finalist teams of the Translational Program: Drs. Uri Tabori and Sébastien Perreault, Drs. Gregory Costain and Philippe Campeau, and Drs. Christoph Licht and Alexandra Cambier. The program is designed to support cross-institutional teams in carving new paths to innovation, discovery and, importantly – the translation of new, individualized approaches into patient care.
Following a thorough cross-institutional assessment of the projects and presentations, ASO Connect, a project led by Drs. Gregory Costain (SickKids) and Philippe Campeau (CHU Sainte-Justine) was selected as the Translational Program winner. The project aims to improve access and streamline the development of a promising new treatment for children with rare disease – antisense oligonucleotides (ASO). Congratulations Drs. Costain and Campeau!
